JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
Under the general and direct supervision of the administrator/office manager and area supervisor, provides ancillary laboratory support for the clinic. Perform other diverse duties as requested or required.

Primary Job Duties: Direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, and protection of patients, and supervision of clinical services for patients. The performance of skin tests, injections, and withdrawal of human blood from veins, and placement of intravenous (IV) lines as needed. Observe reaction to the procedure with the implementation of appropriate reporting and the initiation of emergency procedures if required. Annual competency assessment is required. Collect or instructs patients in the proper technique for the collection of throat and nasal swabs, urine, stool and sputum upon receiving a physician’s request. Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment according to policy. . Performs testing in all areas of the lab, Performs basic troubleshooting of analyzers when required, Follows quality control guidelines in accordance with departmental policy, Responsible for maintaining current state license and providing copies to the Lab Manager. Observes and practices standard precautions.
Orders: Order all appropriate testing including in-house lab work and reference lab work as guided by physician protocol or under direct orders.
Test Results: Ensure all results and reports from either in-house testing or outside testing is in the chart prior to the physician seeing the patient or according to the physician’s request.
Procedures: Practice only within the guidelines as permitted by your license and state regulations. Assist physicians and other staff with all procedures as directed
Phones: Utilize phone system properly, answer phones in a courteous manner, quickly identify caller’s needs, route calls appropriately, create complete flag and phone notes and route appropriately. Reply to all phone notes and flags in a timely manner. Respond to all patient questions and requests within physician protocol or under their specific direction.
Communication: Communicate with all staff, patients, and referring offices using phones, EMR flags and phone notes, Kryptiq secure messaging and Company email, utilizing each method when appropriate. Follow up and seek resolution to complaints per policy and reports them to a supervisor and office manager. Report all incidents as per policy.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position offers both part-time and full-time positions. The lab is open from open time until the last patient leaves at the end of the day.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: 6 months experience in a clinical laboratory as a MLT or MLT student. Pay is based upon experience level
Knowledge: Is familiar with laboratory regulations, guidelines, and standards including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical laboratory theory, practice and technique in the areas of hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis, microscopy and serology, demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement principles as it relates to the laboratory
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Associate Degree as an MLT with State of Tennessee license as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
