JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

Under the general and direct supervision of the Clinic Coordinator, provides patient assistant support for the clinic. Perform other diverse duties as requested or required.

Essential Functions

Computer Systems: GE Centricity Practice Management (PM), GE Centricity Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Kryptiq Secure Messaging, Satellite Med Email and Website, Microsoft Word and PC Punch Time Clock.

Primary Duties

Assist the patients with check in on the computer, support the patients and their immediate needs and attempt to answer all their questions. Communicate with the front office and the nursing team in a collaborative effort to have the patient seen in a timely manner.

Secondary Duties

Assist physicians with charting while in the room with the patient or after the complete exam. Help ensure proper charges and diagnosis codes are entered correctly. Assist nursing staff and physicians in all aspects of patient care with the guidelines associated with your training and direct supervision of the physician or nursing supervisor.

Triage: Bring patients to the appropriate room. Do an initial triage including but not limited to vital signs and patient history information. Follow physician protocols and obtain all requested information from the patient or appropriate family member.

Orders: Order all appropriate testing including in-house lab work and x-rays as guided by physician protocol or direct physician involvement.

Test Results: Ensure all results and reports from either in-house testing or outside testing is in the chart prior to the physician seeing the patient or according to the physician’s request.

Procedures: Practice only within the guidelines as permitted by the physician you are assisting and within your training level. Assist physicians and other staff with all procedures as directed. Follow appropriate protocol to ensure the patient’s health and safety

Discharge: After the physician has completed the examination of the patient, ensure the nursing staff knows the patient is ready for discharge. Assist the nursing staff with the discharge as requested.

Phones: Utilize phone system properly, answer phones in a courteous manner, quickly identify caller’s needs, route calls appropriately, create complete flag and phone notes and route appropriately.

Communication: Communicate with all staff, patients, and referring offices using phones, EMR flags and phone notes, Kryptiq secure messaging and Company email; utilizing each method when appropriate. Follow up and seek resolution to complaints per policy and reports them to a supervisor and office manager. Report all incidents as per policy.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position is also responsible for keeping the front lobby clean and stocked.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This position offers both part-time and full-time positions.

No travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Education and Experience


Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent

No experience is necessary; however, it is requested to have experience in the medical field. Pay is based upon experience level.
