Position Summary

Under the general and direct supervision of the administrator/office manager and area supervisor, provides patient assistant support for the clinic.  Perform other diverse duties as requested or required. 

Essential Job Functions

Computer Systems:  GE Centricity Practice Solutions (CPS), MidMark, CardioSoft, Kryptiq Secure Messaging, Biscom, Sign In Electronically, Satellite Med Email, Website and Employee Portal, Microsoft Word and Nova Time.  Existing and New computer systems can be changed or added at any time.

Primary Nursing Duties:  Indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, and protection of patients.  Primary responsibility is to relay information between the providers and the patients utilizing knowledge of signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior or general physical condition and the implementation of appropriate reporting or referrals.  Indirect patient care services necessary to implement a treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative regimen ordered by a physician. 

Secondary Nursing duties: Direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, and protection of patients The performance of skin tests, injections, and withdrawal of human blood from veins, and placement of intravenous (IV) lines as needed and as level of training permits.  Direct and indirect patient care services necessary to implement a treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative regimen ordered by a physician.  If an activity overlaps the practice of medicine, the medical assistant may perform the function only if there is an approved standardized procedure or standing order in place.
Phones: Utilize phone system properly, answer phones in a courteous manner, quickly identify caller’s needs, route calls appropriately, create flags, phone notes, route appropriately.  Reply to all phone notes and flags in a timely manner. Direct phone notes to the appropriate provider and nurse.

Incoming & Outgoing Telephone Calls: Work as a team with other members of the nursing department. Main function of position is to handle incoming and outgoing telephone calls promptly and efficiently. This position works off the Nursing-Nursing desktop as well as their desktop. These positions are responsible for assisting Family Practice nursing staff with telephone calls.  
          -Incoming: Verify patient’s name and date of birth to establish a phone note. Document the phone message; handle phone call by assisting patient’s needs. If you are unable to answer questions direct phone note to correct provider/nurse or Doctor of the Day. A provider must sign off on the phone note once completed.
          -Outgoing: Verify patient’s name and date of birth. Per providers request, call patients with results, follow up questions, medication questions, etc. Position is responsible for Prior Authorization on medications. During down time this position assists with other Nursing-Nursing duties including answering incoming telephone calls, assist with referrals and complete necessary reports and paperwork.

Communication: Communicate with all staff, patients, and other healthcare providers using phones, CPS flags and phone notes, secure messaging, and Company email; utilizing each method when appropriate.  Company and staff updates are posted on the web-site in the staff section.   Follow up and seek resolution to complaints per policy and reports them to a supervisor and office manager.  Report all incidents as per policy.

Triage: Bring patients to the appropriate room.  Do an initial triage including but not limited to vital signs and patient history information.  Follow physician protocols and obtain all requested information from the patient or appropriate family member. 

Orders: Order all appropriate testing including in-house lab work and x-rays as guided by physician protocol. 

Test Results: Ensure all results and reports from either in-house testing or outside testing is in the chart prior to the physician seeing the patient or according to the physician’s request.

Procedures:      Practice only within the guidelines as permitted by your license and state regulations.  Assist physicians and other staff with all procedures as directed.  Follow appropriate protocol to ensure the patients health and safety.  Administer medications and appropriate care based upon physician orders.

Job Standards specific to this job

Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required. Certification is not required but requested .BLS and AED certification is required

Experience:No experience is necessary; however it is requested to have experience in the medical field. Pay is based upon experience level.
