Position Summary

Under the general and direct supervision of the office manager, provides laboratory support for the clinic, performs other diverse duties as requested or required. Assure quality patient care in accordance with established federal, state, clinical and administrative standards and policies.

 

Essential Job Functions

Computer Systems: Computer Systems: GE Centricity Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Orchard, Kryptiq Secure Messaging, satellite med Physician Portal, Satellite Med Email and Website, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Primary Duties: Direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, and protection of patients, and supervision of clinical services for patients. The performance of injections, withdrawal of human blood from veins, and placement of intravenous (IV) lines as needed. Observe reaction to the procedure with the implementation of appropriate reporting and the initiation of emergency procedures if required. Annual competency assessment is required. Collect or instructs patients in the proper technique for the collection of throat and nasal swabs, urine, stool and sputum upon receiving a physician’s request. Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment according to policy. . Performs testing in all areas of the lab, Performs basic troubleshooting of analyzers when required, Follows quality control guidelines in accordance with departmental policy, Responsible for maintaining current state license and providing copies to the Lab Manager. Observes and practices standard precautions.

Orders: Order all appropriate testing including in-house lab work and reference lab work as guided by physician protocol or under direct orders.

Test Results: Ensure all results and reports from either in-house testing or outside testing is in the chart prior to the physician seeing the patient or according to the physician’s request.

Procedures: Practice only within the guidelines as permitted by your license and state regulations. Assist physicians and other staff with all procedures as directed

Phones: Utilize phone system properly, answer phones in a courteous manner, quickly identify caller’s needs, route calls appropriately, create complete flag and phone notes and route appropriately. Reply to all phone notes and flags in a timely manner. Respond to all patient questions and requests within physician protocol or under their specific direction.

Communication: Communicate with all staff, patients, and referring offices using phones, EMR flags and phone notes, Kryptiq secure messaging and Company email,utilizing each method when appropriate. Follow up and seek resolution to complaints per policy and reports them to a supervisor and office manager. Report all incidents as per policy.

Financial:. Ensure proper handling of money and payment.. Reconcile with each employee from each cash drawer at each shift change.

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Assist and oversee billing tasks in front office
  • Ensures that Compliance Laws and Regulations are followed
  • Communicates departmental and staff needs to corporate administrative team
  • Manages department operations within the boundaries set by the Company

Supervisor responsibilities specific to department

  • Coordinates department personnel resources to meet patient load
  • Scheduling for Lab departmental Staff
  • Maintains professional competence through attendance at various training courses, seminars, professional meetings
  • Establishes education programs for department staff
  • Maintains a reference library for the department
  • Train new and existing employees in lab department procedures and processes
  • Counseling for lab department employees as necessary
  • Implement new workflows that pertain to the Department and Company
  • Ensures staff knowledge and participation in emergency procedures, fire safety, evacuation plan and disaster drills
  • Ensures departmental staff knowledge of Standard Precautions and Exposure Control Plan
  • Communicates job expectations and employee responsibilities to staff
  • Responsible for departmental personnel matters
  • Completes orientation program and skills checklist for all new employees prior to their assignment of duties
  • Develops departmental pricing through evaluation of quality controls, reagents and test volume considering input from medical director, cost of outsourcing, cost of supplies and patient needs
  • Assures Laboratory participation in Proficiency Testing for all monitored constituents in the Laboratory with 90% success or greater.
  • Develops Laboratory’s Continuous Quality Improvement to enhance patient care
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the testing menu and recommends changes when needed
  • Is familiar with laboratory regulations, guidelines, and standards including, State of Tennessee, CLIA, CAP, and OSHA.

 

Job Standards

Education : Bachelors degree in medical technology or degree in related field plus completion of an
approved laboratory training program, or completion of an approved MLT or MT program with HHS equivalency. BLS and AED certification is requested

Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience as a Medical Technologist in a Supervisory role is recommended. Pay is based upon experience level
